think i picked up a bundle of rope today on the river near norwich. Cant afford a crane or a diver and am gonna try putting her ass end in a concrete slip at high water and take a look at low water. This is dependant on the hull profile of course but i dont know waht this is. As its a shaft driven Broom 30ft skipper I am hoping its got a protected prop...what do you think? or does anyone know the profile. or got any other ideas?

regards

How many friends do you have? Offer them all free beer as close to the bows as they can get while you stand on the pontoon at the stern. It's amazing how far you can get the transom to lift this way.

If you cant aford a crane out, risking crunching the props doesnt sound very sensible. You dont need to be a diver to put a face mask on and have a quick peek underwater. failing that ebay frequently sell underwater camers that you can strap to a broom stick and connect to a laptop, and thus be able to have a good look without getting wet.
How would you manage 20 miles from land?

Why get your knickers in a twist? Borrow a wet suit and face mask and tube and go and have a look. You might even be able to reach it without putting the tube and head completely under water.

I have done this several times, even singlehanded at sea.

just to let you helpful guys know that this transpired to be half a roll of heavy duty damp proof membrane....brand new and tough as old boots. no damage caused but a bundle so big she would not reverse. Found a really helpful crane at wroxham boat builders who did me a lift and hold for 15 minutes for £50.00. By the way the profile is that of a protected prop, but still this rubbish get churned in.
