Does anyone know why we don't have lobsters and crabs in the waters around Malta? Plenty of fishing done , but no lobster pots? I'm curious , hope some of our forumites have an answer?
Cheers all /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My Med book says that the reason for the bright blue seas and clear water, is beacuse of the lack of plankton, which it turn means there is a lack of sea life generally, and also the whole area has been overfished since Roman times, compared with other oceans.

Dunno how true it is, but apart from the odd little fishes, I rarely see anything that big snorkeling, compared to say the North West coast in the UK.

Perhaps thats part of the answer?

Could be - the sea is very clear for sure, especially at this time of the year. Thanks for that, sounds very logical. Sneddon - I wish I wish , washed down with a bottle good local wine - luvely. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

There are crabs n stuff like that in Maltese water but they are small due to higher water temp, and the fact the Maltese will eat anything they can see to catch. Just look at the size of those fish traps they suspend in mid water to catch Damsel fish 1-3inch long, their bottom pots are just as devastating.
