Some of you may have had the good fortune to meet Gordon Wilson of Wilson's Boatyard in Sunbury. Gordon was admitted to hospital about a month ago and has recently very sadly passed away.

One of the characters of the river, if he thought you were OK, or his wife said so, he could not do enough for you. Gordon's moorings were patrolled by him daily with boats being checked and any security issues being advised to the owner, or patched up temporarily if he thought it needed doing, such as a mooring rope fraying or a canopy left open (I have been guilty on both!). I recall a phone call from Mrs Wilson several years ago telling me that "Gordon didn't think much of the way you moored up, pop in next time you are around and he will give you some tips". Result, an hour's practice at picking up a buoy in the company of a wise man who was full of good advice.

Condolences to Gordon's family.

I had the pleasure of knowing him for the past five years or so . A lovely man who will be missed and a great loss to the boating world . I was reading on the classics forum of the boats that where built at his yard and when i was thinking of building a launch he showed me a few pointer on his hire boat fleet that he built himself . A very sad loss indeed .
