This girl you may have seen in the Hamble a few weeks ago, she came all the way from NZ under her own steam.

Thanks for posting your pictures and the info about the boat moored at the bottom of the river It looked like it was constructed in aluminium ? Only had a quick look though as we passed by

Some nice piccies there Julie.

I particularly like the one viewing out from Yarmouth with her three moons. No wonder the Springs are so high. ;)

That's one of Steve Dashew's FPB boats, sometimes known as Wind Horse after the prototype he had built for himself. They now have a series of different sizes and I'm not sure offhand which that is, but they all look very similar.

(The "fat" boat is of course the paddle steamer Waverley)

First time I've been able to give information about motorboats on the mobo forum :)

Nice pics Julie, thanks

The Dashew boat is the 64; the original Windhorse was 83' That particular 64 is I presume Grey Wolf, hull #6 of about 10 launched, if it is the one that came from NZ. Impressive passage maker, but you'd have to be hard core passage maker (as opposed to loafer!) to own one

When you rush up Motala's side decks Julie, don't you thwack your ankle on the nav lights???!!

Very much agree re hard core. They look a tad industrial for my taste though there is I admit something of an attraction there and I'm sure I read that someone (Steve Dashew?) has commented that the military look has been helpful in warding off nefarious characters in some situations. If you haven't followed her passage from NZ on the web it looks to be archived here: http://www.berthon.co.uk/greywolf/. An interesting thread and some interesting insights from Tom Cunliffe within it.

Hi JFM no as Motala has nice slim led nav lights , however the horn on the port side can do a stunning bruise on your knee if you don't pay attention. Jon

Goodo! What is the thing in that picture, starboard side, about ankle height? Looks like a nav light with a power cable coming out of the bottom and turning towards the cabin side. Scuse my curiosity, and it's not a life or death issue!

Last summer I was heading west down the Solent past Gurnard ledge (sailing on port tack) and a kite surfer was on course to go across my bow, port to starboard. As I was trying to work out what to do, he waved me through, came across about 5 metres off my stern with a "Nce afternoon" and we both went about our business. On that basis I can only conclude that kite surfers are gentlemen... :)

The pic was taken before she had her posh new lights fitted, and yes JFM, they did bash your ankle but also if you caught them wrong they lifted off to.

Came across him in beau river , he was about to land in our cockpit, his face went from oh **** -to idea- to grin, he then jumped [when photo was taken] and did a mid air turn , missed us by a foot or so.

This is FPD 64 Hull 6 (grey wolf) I had a very interesting visit to this boat last week before they departed to Gib. It's a serious passage maker powered by a single 6068TFM John Deere motor.
