...to brighten up a DULL weekend.
Having had my plans for a couple of nights on board scuppered by the weather, I decided to me the most of the forecast and steal a day out yesterday, together with my son. The intention was to try and catch a fish - any fish! We were desparate, and the fish knew it.
We met this gentleman plugging away - is it a Macwester?? If anyone knows the boat name, I can put it on Schmoo's site. My son now knows what a Junk rig looks like.
Who is it?
There were quite a few boats out:
Missee Lee
Awake
Manana (Manyana, only I can't do the squiggle over the first 'n')
And another 'who-is-it'
We motored into the wind as far as the Fairway buoy, as my son & I wanted to get into some deeper water for a spot of fishing. Just after we turned the engine off, we saw this old gaffer (and his boat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) straight off a chocolate box lid:
Quest
We saw him later on, with all his laundry out, going like the clappers, but too far away to be worth taking a photo - very nice sight, though).
No luck with any fish this far, but we did spot the angling trip boats anchored of the SE end of Red Wharf Bay, so sailed over and tried our hands around there for a while, but still nothing doing. Pretty much on low water, we turned to head back, and met the dinghy and keel-boat racers coming out of Puffin Sound, and:
Take Two
What type of boat is she?
First around the mark for the keel boats was
Con Brio (From the latin "con" meaning "with", and "brio" meaning "Small wooden train set")
(They did get the kite up quite soon after, but too far away for a decent photo).
Heading back in to Conwy, we met
Missee Lee again
And another old gaffer:
Rona
And a very pleasant wave from:
Shearwater
We only encountered one other mobo on the way back in - he seemed intent on keeping to the left of the channel - the further over to the right I moved, the more he turned to pass to my stbd.
We had a brief look to see if we could see where Kilter (of this parish) is moored, but couldn't find him/her (Robin / his boat). Once again, my son took Pippin expertly onto her mooring, leaving me just to lift the mooring strop and tie it to the cleat.
There followed a 15 minute interlude trying to get the outboard started on the tender (fouled plug, I think - I really must buy it a new one), and then home to bed.
If anyone wants the originals (at higher resolution, and with a few similar pics) just PM me with an email address. I will upload the named ones to Schmoo's site in due course.
(and if anyone has a picture of Pippin.....)
