I have jusy been offered a Wellcraft Sports Cuddy 26ft with single 330HP 7.4L engine, 1991, in apparently good condition. I am allowed to inspect before parting with money. The initial asking price is £10,000 (and I haven't haggled yet!)

Are they any good? Is this a good price (it seems so)?

I would be keen to re-engine it with a diesel - is it worth doing?

Is there anything else I need to know???

Sounds a reasonable price, but that engine will frighten you with its thirst. Dunno if you'll see your money back on a diesel conversion. LPG?

Seems good. Sort of comparing pricing to BarryD's Rinker exploits.

Bit worried you thort it worthwhile to report "I am allowed to inspect before parting with money". Erm, I should blimmin think so! :-)

I suspect diesel conversion not worth it, financially?
 
The changing engine bit, Might be a bit more excpencive than you think. I'd look round for some thing with diesel in it for a start.

Wellcraft very good strong boat. 7.4 ltr not significantly thirstier than 5.7 ltr
( unless you lean on the thottle and use the extra power )
It is obviously far more costly to run, fuelwise, than a diesel. A lot depends on how much your going to use the boat, as a diesel will be dearer to buy in the first place.
 
Look @ Lancing Marine...I can replace my Volvo V8 for around £6K....a Ford diesel.
Or, Marine Maintenance do a GM V8 diesel for around same...then there's Samurai..GM V8 diesel...(see previous postings)...if Samurai were that crap, surely they'd go bust???

Not only how much you're gonna use it, but where! It's increasingly difficult to find quayside petrol. Not a big deal if your going to be towing it - my first boat was a 27ft Bayliner that used to see my local Jet station quite regularly, behind the Range Rover I had to tow it. Never used to object, tho - something about having to buy 100 gallons at a time, I suspect. Big issue, tho - many outlets that currently have petrol quayside are getting rid; something to do with safety regulations becoming more onerous than decreasing profits made from decreasing sales. LPG is fine on the sea, but be aware that you can't get a Boat Safety Certificate if you have LPG, and u need a Boat Safety to use the boat on inland waterways. 10 grand, tho - not much to get started in what is just about the most expensive hobby around! BOAT? Break Out Another Thousand!
