it's an interesting issue.
If you had perfectly clean fuel then you don't need it
If you have the bug then by breaking down the byproducts that gunge up your filters so that they will pass through the filters I suppose from an engine perspective there must be a small downside over perfectly clean fuel, but from a hollistic boating perspective I will (and do) use it. Mind you my old fashoned mechanical Yanmar is no match for these electronic Volvo fuel management systems.............../forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Downside is cost, and imho if you get thru plenty of fuel and buy from clean suppliers you dont need it. but as mentioned on another thread if you do get the bug then Soltron (based on our actual experience) seems outstandingly good at killing the bug and breaking it down into a size that will get thru your filters and get burned in the engine. So, excellent stuff for that, imho. What you gotta decide is, do you bung it in the tank every fillup as a preventative measure, or not?
I had problems when I changed from petrol to diesel. First filters bloked up in 10 hours. Put Soltron in and now not changed filter for 140 hours and no sign of problems - will change any 150 hours though - as matter of course.
