Wish i knew....

Is it still available? If so where can I get some?

We were alongside a Channel Islander classic mobo family in Paimpol at the Chant, who said his relation imported/dealt in it in Jersey, IMRC.
They were a lovely couple and teenage kids- must check the Log to see if we noted the boat name.

Trouble was, after the yotty magazines dissed it a few years ago, he and his relative left the 1litre-ish retail end and stuck to supplying 40 gallon drums to the commercials.

I used it all the time- on the boat, and in my diesel Discovery.
Did a good job of decoking my youngest's ford ghia petrol car too!;)

Then came the diss and i've not been able to buy it retail since.
Not got to Jersey this season, to follow up the contact, and get a 40g drum if need be!

Anyone in Jersey have a contact, mobo was in the motor trade there?

Jimi,

You're in Somerset/Wiltshire aren't you?
I'm fairly sure that I've seen it in Mole Valley Farmers so perhaps any agricultural supplier will have it? It would certainly be cheaper than a swindlery.

The original US Soltron was sold to Starbrite, who market it as Startron. It's widely available in the UK. I stopped buying Soltron from the various oddbod suppliers in the UK because it always seemed to be in different shaped bottles with different labels and was of dubious origin. At least a brand like Starbrite ought to be able to be trusted.

Just Looked-Nothing on their website!

I don't know. I'm going to check my local agricultural supplier next time I'm near; just out of curiosity.

I did a quick Google on "Soltron" and it appears that there are all sorts of companies who claim to be the original inventors. I suppose it explains the comments earlier about different packaging but the brand certainly appears to have had a chequered history.

The two factions used to bicker like hell, but basically one inventor in Japan, licensed the technology to USA, and the two factions used to claim and counterclaim they were the one and only supplier of the original. Startron is from the US contingent, but from what I've been able to glean over the years that there is no fundamental difference in any of the variants.
Once Starbrite got in on the act, they had so many outlets already, they took over the market, so it you buy Startron, you are buying Soltron, just under a different name. That's for the 'consumer' market. Soltron still sold in bulk to large buyers

Recognise the dinghy- see the girls are sailing it, not rowing!
How are you all?

My wheel chair bound pal Lester really appreciated that half of the Guinness 'flag' your Mrs gave me- pride of place on his living room wall above his Guinness memoribila cupboard (includes a original Toucan!).
More than the cider I brought back:D

Think I've seen it in MV too but from memory was MUCH more expensive than yr average swindlery, which was quite a surprise, being a bit of a MV groupie!!
