As posted elsewhere I have become tired of the bickering re Soltron or Soltron or Soltron so have done some research about its apparent "inventor" Dr Shinji Makino.

It seems there is a very respected biologist of this name working in Human Virology studies at Texas Uni, but the guy referred to by all concerned with Soltron seems to be some other bloke who not only "invented" the soltron enzyme but also pedals "PiWater" a modified water that does all sorts of fantastic things!!! see : PiWater

And is also touted as "Founder of multiple Elements on the Periodic Table"!

Know I'm not the brightest knife in the box but this looks decidedly iffy to me. "Wonder Water" indeed!! Plus a web search of the awards he's been given don't look too "substantial" neither??

All looks very much like smoke & mirrors to me chaps, what do you think, especially at £30 a shot!! Paul

We dont ever to have claimed anything to do with this guy who ever he maybe. We only deal with Solpower Japan Corporation where Soltron comes from as you can just about see in the labels on the pictures of the cans I have sent.

Quite. However, I will continue to use Dom's infamous snake oil religiously. Pulled the filters in March after about 150 hours use, and they were so clean they went straight back on. Only had bug once, three years ago, and have used pukka UK sold Soltron ever since.

I'm with you Wiggo. I've used Soltron ever since my diesiel engine replacemt and had blocked filters soon after. Since using Soltron, I have had no problems, get a clean burn, no smoke and my filters are clean. I just wish people would leave Dom alone. Use it or not - it's an individual choice. But it works for me!

yES A BIT PISSED OFF WITH THIS THREAD UUpp's. And a bit pissed off with this new forum. What went wrong from the days that I got Soltron from Dom just to help folks out, who could not get it. Got Dom to send me 30 bottles as one was imposible. But as I knew it would, the forum folk bought it, we all gained more friends. Flags were a great success. Over three hundred folk have them. Every one wanted Tee shirts and we met up all over the place. Holidays in the Med, parties in london. Meetings and good friends made all over the country. But it's died, not sure why. Maybe to many newbies who dont actualy go anywhere anyway. Status simble, posh boat, no money for diesel and to wimpy to go any where that just might not have water or electric!!! Christ i'm only looking back to 2000 or so. Not the 1950's. Look whats happened. Brendans mercury meet with over a 100 gets zilch responce this year, then even a reduced particpant spot gets none. Some one else tried to ge to gether in plymouth. Failed miserably as did the girls on another thread.

Every one just seems to want to knock what we have proved works. Maybe with no scientific data. But if you stick soltron in and a few hous later it dont smoke, or smoked less and third party asks wheres your smoke.??

No one wants flags anymore or soltron. It seems a bit of a waist of time hoisting MF's 5000 Mucky Farter flag any more.

It's all becoming a bit of a bore.

Very true, boating in the last 5 - 8 years has changed. Before they rebuilt Mylor, on the average summer day 80 % of the boats would be out, now your lucky if 10 % are out. Before the average boat there was 30 foot, now there 50 foot, the Escort van has become a Merc / BMW. Retired people from up country have taken over our yacht club, it's become the social centre to pass the winter away, actual friendship has gone.
The forum has gone the same.

I agree with the many others who are supporting Dom - Solly's worked for me for years, Dom's been great, why worry? Plenty other things in life to fret about....the phrase 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' comes to mind.

Totally agree, I use it and it works for me, as regards the cost its only a small proportion of the fuel bill and if it saves me from all the hassle of the bug then great. The only problem I've ever had was getting the stuff, but now the local chandlery does it.
I promise to send a cheque off to Haydn next week for my Medway Chapter special limited edition flag, I just hope it does'nt cause any structural damage at the immense speeds I travel at. Haydn, can you show me the formula for the integrity of the flag before I make this purchase, or have you got something to hide, eh, chummy?

miserable git! We're still out and still meeting up regularly with great friends we've made through the forum. And we still fly our burgee. And we still use Soltron. Less of this grumbling, or we'll come and invade the West Country again!

can it be an informal invasion?

I understand hlb's view but do hope that 2005 proves better than is reflected in activity so far.
2004 was better than 2003; Mercury, Jimi's weymouth weekend and the scuttlebutt cherborg run were all well supported despite the weather etc and there were a lot of small groups meeting pretty regularily that would never otherwise have met without this place.
Let's judge 2005, and consider decline or otherwise, in 8 months time rather than judge it now.

oh and if I send you a cheque/SAE etc can I have another flag please sir?

After reading some of these posts I am keen to try Soltron.
We should be in CI soon, is it cheaper there ?
How much will it cost for 750 L
do I need to use it all the time or is it just once or twice a year,
best left in tanks for a while or mixed and used on a long passage.

Over the last 6 years I have used about 7500 gals of diesel and I have made only 2 unscheduled filter changes, how much would I have spent on Soltron treatments to save 2x£6.50 ?

I am keen to have no unscheduled filter changes but need to consider the cost compared with fitting second filter and switch valve.

Thing is. You dont need soltron or other. Untill you need it. It may reduce smoke, but not if the engines knacked. It wont get rid of fuel bug if you aint got it. You will have to use 400ltrs or so before you see an advantage.

It worked miricles on our old Toyta 4x4 pickup. But did nothing for my Merc, which had no faults.
