Can anyone recommend a quick and easy wax or treatment to put the nourishment back into a light oak table, it has a Matt finish which has dry rough parts

any suggestions please

Think that BRIWAX might do the job for you or Topps liquid.
The Briwax is a neutral colour, the other comes in different hues for antique restoration and scratch repairs. Try google for a supplier.

Applying any new finish over an existing failing finish will not be satisfactory solution in the long term. The best course of action would be to strip the existing finish, then start again. Is this table used on board or at home? Conventional wisdom might suggest a varnish finish, but I have had good results with Top Oil, a wax-oil blend marketed by Osmo and designed for use on kitchen worksurfaces. Goes on easily and creates a very durable surface which is easily maintained by occassional re-coating. Doesn't peel, chip or flake like varnish.
Remember that the wood in your table is dead and does not need 'nourishment' - that's a myth put about by manufacturers of furniture polishes and the like.
