Solid fuel stoves - flue question

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of running a solid fuel stove flue horizontally out of a cabin through a vertical wooden bulkhead/coaming? Thanks to forumite Mirelle I now know that a water iron is the thing for a straightforward flue exit through the coachroof but how do you insulate the woodwork and make things watertight if you want to run a flue pipe out sideways. Or is it not the done thing?

Hi Chris

Sorry I can't help with your question, but I am also thinking of a solid fuel heater (Bengco) and it sounds like I need to know what a 'Water iron' is as I'll be facing the problem of a flew exit up thru the coachroof.
I did a quick search and drew a blank. Could you either explain it or tell me which post covered it.

Hello Colin

If you buy a Bengco it will come with all the parts including the through deck fitting - all you have to do is install it! I fitted one to my boat four years ago and now spend many a cosy day on board!

I believe that a 'water iron' is part of a through deck flue fitting and comprises a saucer or bowl fitting snugly around the pipe which you top up with water to cool the flue at the deck joint.
hope this helps... urm, I've just reread that, it almost makes sense hope you understand.
