solid fuel burner

Not to be too picky, but isn’t it a CO monitor youre wanting there?[/QUOTE

fire extinguishers on the brain at the moment, well spotted :encouragement:

I didnt even notice until after I did exactly the same thing. Shows what sheep we can be. Wpould have been fun if nobody mentioned it to see how many more times it happened. Reminds me of one of my kids describing something as a "damp squid" once.

on the subjecct of log burners,
many years ago my oldest son, now all grown up, had an itchy bottom. He was about 12 at the time, somehow he became convinced he had a tapeworm. It was too good an opportunity to miss, so we showed him various horrific pics of worms. Utterly disgusted he demanded an immediate solution. I told him to put some salt on his "button" and when one came out to eat it to just grab it and pull it out. He did do, and duly stood in the living room, bum out "dad, can you see it yet?"
"no son" I replied, maybe it is too cold, stand nearer the fire. He shuffled closer to the fire, and just as he settled I shouted "there is one of the buggars, get it."
In terror , instead of reaching for the mythical worm, he attempted to run across the room, at which point his trousers came down, tripping him and making him head butt the lounge door before collapsing in a heap. That was the point where the German Shepherd tried to mount him.
Never laughed so hard in my life.

I can, unfortunately, go one better.
A few years ago we visited Swaziland, I lived there as a child and it was my first return so we took all three kids. The eldest was at Uni by this time. On our return he came to me with a ‘small problem’. A tick had fastened itself to his scrote! I have to say that he was not the most sanitary of teenagers-one of my buddies reckoned it must be a kamikaze tick. Luckily no ill effects, the tick survived the experience.

If you are having a think about boat fire extinguishers, check out water mist systems

Powder and CO2 have problems in a confined space, but water mist is very good for a variety of fire types from diesel to electrical, and wood/fabric. A bit expensive but well worth it for speed of extinguishing, controllability, and lack of contingent damage.

yes I saw them following another thread on here a while back. Definitely worth getting for the new boat

No not for the boat but for a large public event i am helping to organise tommorrow, someone thought it would be a good idea to get a H&S Officer to oversee it :grumpy: We went on a leisurely 2 week cruise down to Dartmouth and back and i ended up with a new 6 litre AFFF which i will retire to the works van and replace with a water mist for boat, they do look to be rather good.
