Solent weather on Channel 23

I have my vhf routinely on dual watch in the Solent (Channel 67 & 16) and reception is great. When the announcement is made of a weather transmission due, I tune to channel 23 as I am in that area (usually the eastern end) from recollection, reception is nearly always poor/barely readable. Does anyone else experience this? I am at a loss as to why this might be; any suggestions?

FRom recollection 23 comes from the aerial at Ventnor. If you have the island between you and the transmitter, that might be why. We also experience this in the Eastern Solent, but not once past the forts.

Yep, we get better reception listening to Portland for the weather. Other Solent broadcasts seem OK on 16 and 67.

So where do they transmit the Ch16 and Ch67 traffic from then that makes it so clear in the Solent?
