Solent to Portland radio check on ch 16

In the week Solent call Portland for a radio check --

I was so tempted to call them up and advise them to do it on channel 67 - chickened out at the last minute though..

Solent has been taken over by a new bloke. Rummer has it he used to work for Sunsail! (all fiction!)

all the best - if it's the 2nd or following weekend then we might dash out to wave as you head by passing within 20 miles of Poole.........a Tuesday/Wednesday is unlikely though. Don't get confussed, all those ships that will be anchored up in the Solent as you leave will not be there to see you off. It' something to do with a bloke called Nelson.

Assuming that you want a serious answer.

I wnt into the Portland CG office in Weymouth to lodge a CG66.

In converstion they said that Solent Coastguard was the only one to be equipped and licensed to answer directly on any other channel than 16

Yes, thanks for that - interesting though a special case for the Solent. I wonder how many civil servant hours were spent on that decision?

I rather liked one a couple of years ago, about 1800h on a Saturday, "leaving Yarmouth for Cherbourg eta 1 hour" Solent...."er what kind of vessel are you sir?" response "a quick one!".
