As it was first sailing weekend since new hip I was glad I did not venture out of the Solent this weekend. Had a pleasant potter to Yarmouth bouys ( never seen so many empty on a BH weekend on Saturday and then in view of the weather fc a great beat back on Sunday to Swanwick Marina. Found the pub outside the marina yuk but the Marina pub and food VFM. Left today at 6 30 am to sneak back to Chichester in flattish water close inshore.
In spite of 3 reefs with rolled up solent jib still had the rail under and over 9 kts, impressive gusts coming out of Portsmouth and Langstone harbours must have touched nearly 40kts.
Comiserations to anybody caught in Yarmouth or Cowes must have been a bouncy night.
Hip passed with flying colours pleased to say wished I had not waited so long in so much pain to get it done, so roll on the summer but lets have less wind please.

ps passed the yacht washed up on East Head at near HW did it get towed off? and hope those who reported on the VHF starting to come back from Cherbourg late on Sat afternoon got to a port of refuge safely, I would have been looking up on how to get back via the Channel tunnel myself!!
