What sailors must realise is that as a result of the red diesel decision most powerboaters will venture less far from their home berths in the Solent on a sunny weekend. The result will be that the Solent will be more congested than ever with powerboats. Sorry rags, you will get less peace than before!

No change then, most of the Solent powerboats don't leave the Solent as it is - most don't leave the marina! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

True, but less will leave the solent now. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Going at displacement speeds is defin itely the way to keep those longer trips in your itinerary, without it costing any more. Actually been doing this for years because I don't have the money to throw at it. Admittedly we do have an s/d boat which is very happy at around 8 knots, but I used to own a 32 ft petrol flybridge and did the same thing in that. You've always got the extra turn of speed if needed but after a while you get quite hooked on the slow lane. Difference in fuel is quite dramatic and will more than offset the price hike if you are used to 25knots up.
