Yeah I don’t get it either🤷‍♂️...if I ever have to work outside in windy conditions on some delicate task....i do it with my back to the wind like a normal person

Your namby-pamby warm wind in the south of France doesn't have half the cooling effect of the proper, manly biting wind we get here in UK (and Latvia, etc.).

At least we now have a new definition.......oooooh that wind is so cold it could cool the tip of my soldering iron

As one who had to do a lot of soldering in locations where there was no power plus a lot in the open air I used and still use a Portasol Professional gas powered soldering iron, I have been using it since 1992, it cost £32 back then plus I also got a selection of different bits for it, it has been my go to soldering iron ever since.

Non leaded is absolutely fine if you have a good strong well-temperature-regulated modern iron and good soldering practices. No good with a feeble, cheap old stick iron without proper regulation. Not bad with a really big iron if you need to do big lumps, either - I use it for foiled stained glass and repairs of brass things that need to be handled and it's surprisingly ok there. No harm in learning how to use it.

I have a TS80 USB-C powered iron. I power it from a portable power pack. It has inter changeable tips. Runs upto 350C. Heats up very quickly. Has a digital readout.

It is great. Keeps hot and works well. My gass powered one is poor in comparison. Runs longer; heats up much faster, much easier to set temperature and is smaller.

Would recommend.

Apart from splattering the wet solder...why would wind affect a battery powered soldering iron ?
The wind cools the tip of any electric solder iron. If its low wattage, it won't get hot enough to function.
I now use a gas powered one which is much better.
