A plan is required for all boats that proceed outside CATEGORISED waters. At what point do waters cease to be catagorised. I sail out of the River Crouch at what point say on this river does the river become uncategorised, not sure myself does anybody have any thoughts or details of what exactly this means.
Thanks in anticipation.

Don't quote me but I believe it is where the limit of the harbour master's juristriction lies. If I'm wrong I'm sure somebody will correct me and at least your post will be top of the pile again!

Peter,
Thanks I will have to print this info off and study it fully. Looks as though if you end up on the putty the plan has gone wrong or you have a bad plan, either way your banged to rights. This could discourage the not so confident from leaving the river or even worse from calling for assistance when in trouble if they risk a fine.
I expect like the regulation regarding the consumption of alcohol it will only get checked if things go wrong. Can I also assume no plan then no insurance?
Sounds like a minefield to me.
Thanks again.

"Can I also assume no plan then no insurance?" Wouldnt have thought so - after all, almost any accident involves some breach of colregs or good practise in some other area and insurance companies usually pay out.

Put another way. if they looked for the slightest reason for not paying out, nobody would ever bother to buy insurance, would they?
