A colleague of mine ha sasked me if "marine" solar powered vents would be a good idea for ventilation (cooling) in a domestic conservatory. Is this likely to work? I would have thought that the volume of air being displaced is too low to be effective in cooling. What do the esteem panel think?

I would agree that the volume of air shifted will be way too small. Check out the specs and compare the quoted volumes with those for mains powered fans. (Typically 100 mm bathroom fans shift 85m³ per hour, 150 mm kitchen fans shift 230m³ per hour)

The reports on their effectiveness on boats is very varied. Some people reckon they are pretty useless anyway.

We've got a couple on RS one in the bog, one in the bedroom. They have made sufficient difference to keep the air fresh but like others doubt that would be much use in a larger volume.
