Solar Panel Regulators

Hi,

I suspect that the regulator for my solar panels is in the process of failing and I'm looking for a replacement. The ones I have found dump excess power into a dummy load of some description, generating a fair bit of heat. I thought you could just open the circuit on solar panels without causing any damage. If this is tru can anyone recommend a regulator that will do this?

Regards

Fred

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

If you fit a PWM type regulator not only will it charge your batteries better it will also squeeze out the volts between the 12 you need and the 16-20 your panel generates which are normally lost. Morning Star make them, try www.solarcentury.com

Expect to pay upto £200, but it will give you proper multi-stage charging.

Hope this helps
