Can anyone advice where I might be able to purchase solar panel plugs and sockets Type AM 4101. The cable and plugs are fully molded and are similar in size to car HT leads.

These are standard on panels from Jiawea Solar and are fully waterproof with a rubberised mating surface and are superior to the standard MC4 and MC3 which are freely available but are not waterproof or suitable for marine applications without wrapping the junction in Self-vulcanising tape.

I know I can cut off these plugs and re-fit MC3's but why fit an inferior plug. The AM4101 must be available somewhere preferably with 10 metre tails?

A photo of the plug and socket I am seeking is below. :)

The obvious place to try is a company who specialise in installing domestic solar arrays. It looks just like what is fitted to my solar arrays. good luck olewill

RS components don't list them and a Google search does not give any hints. Digikey, who can source pretty much anything .... at a price, list them as manufactured by a company called Memory Protection Devices. Drawing reference looks like it's factory moulded with a 6 foot tail. rated to 6a so if you parallel up several panels you are over the limit and would have to run all the panel cables to the charge controller.

MPD is in Farningdale, New York. Phone number: ( 001 ) 631 293-5891 can't seem to find a website that works!

My Digi contact will import stuff but there is a £50 basic charge before shipping and the cost of the components.

Rather replace them with something widely available!

Hi

my panel is connected using mc4 plugs and have not let me down yet.

Thanks for all the replies so far. As said, the MC4 plug is not recommended for marine applications and it would mean cutting off a fully serviceable plug.

The plugs look very similar to a phono plug but are obviously designed for much higher current with a centre pin about 2mm in diameter.

The Bulgin plugs are very expensive and a bit large and the smallest power plug has three connectors minimum which means the 6mm power cable would be a bit difficult to connect. I have written to the manufacturers in Hong Kong hoping they can supply or advise a local supplier.

Sarabande, I have also PM'ed you on another matter. :)
