Anyone have any tips on fresh water availability... Apologies, SOF newbie stuff...

What I mean is, my boat has a small tank, lasting probably 2 days max. So if I run out on anchor, it’s back to Port Vauban for a fill up.

I remember in Salcombe, they had a boat with a fresh water tank that would come by each day and fill you up on the remote pontoons. If they did that in Villefranche or the Lenin’s, surely they’d make a killing...

If I’m at Villefranche or the Lerins is there anywhere closer to fill up or is it back to Vauban and back again.....

Some fuel pontoons have a tap + hose .
They may close @ lunch , or perhaps not in August .So go into Villfranche innocently looking for fuel between 12-2 pm .
So pull up and help yourself.St Jean is around the next cap E .

Or tie up there and send the Admiral , it’s a long way from the fuel berth ( with a live tap ) to the marina office , in Villfranche
By the time she’s plodded round , found its shut for lunch ...,you will have topped up .

Our previous boat similar to yours had 180 L between 4 .
Current has 500 L for usually 2 so our days of scrounging water are behind us .

The fuel berth @ la Rague has a 2 hrs lunch + live tap .
The fuel berth@ la Nap is open all day + a live tap ......but you may as well anchor in Theoule ....plenty of shore beaches + restaurants + shops .

Theres no water @ Lerins .
Cannes , both water unfriendly.

thanks for that

Wait til you try the Porquerolles,
Port Cros has zero water + leccy ....you needs a geny .Theres a tap by the bog block for bottles that’s it .
Porquerolles the main island ships it in via the St Christopher a water barge .
Its iffy the supply ....sometimes it on , sometimes its off .Some of the visitor’s berths have zero at all .
Here you have to nick water like I suggest from nearby marinas .
Cavalaire is the best .....live hose and tap on the fuel dock .....nice place to stay if you like a splash of night life / atmosphere.

There is water at the Lerins.

At the small harbour on Ille Saint Honoratte there are taps. You just need to find a space.
You are never gonna get away connecting ( if it’s possible because it’s a normal tap faucet ) a hose and kicking 150 L of water under the “ ville d Cannes “ marine wardens sat in the hut ,
Thats assuming a T 40 will be allowed in and fit .
That tap is for feet washing and topping up day trippers water bottles .

Porto,

This is the tiny harbour I was referring to and yes it is tight, but there are usually people in there. They only clear it when the barge is doing a delivery. There‘s a tap or two on the harbour and I’ve seen plenty using it. I paddle in here in the mornings to walk George. Worse case you could shuffle water containers backwards and forwards if required. It would be quicker than having to head to a port.

What a 10 min run across the bay of Cannes to La Nap / La Rague .
12 mins to be exact .
Top up the tank via a hose .

A 40 L empty water container ....how many carry those ? Weighs 40 kg = over a 100 lbs .....
If he had some hanging around his T 40 ...might as fill em in Antibes .
Showere , toilets , sink , washing etc .
Between 2-4 ( hasn’t said ,but boat has 4 berths ) a few 2 L empties filled and chucked in the tender is not going to dent T 40 s tank .
Nah needs every few days to find water for a proper tank topping up .

As said poke your noise at lunch time in marinas and grab it ....pretend you are waiting for the Fr 2 hr lunch thingy to end .

If he wants and ought to go traveling around he needs to learn to manage the water .Its good the OP has already asked .

Yes it’s a 10 min run, but it’s getting the anchor up, motoring out at 5 kts as that’s the limited, time entering the port at the leather end and then reversing the whole process if you want to go back.

We normally last 3 days at anchor before wanting to head for some water. We have just shy of 400l and there are the two of us, but showers am and pm, plus after swimming washing up etc will see us use 25% a day. Plus after three days the holding tank is getting up to 75% so we need to think about that too.

Jonathon, why don’t you ask James what he did? He was on the med for a few years.
