Due to being unable to source a Riser and Exhaust Manifold for the 3.0l Merc lump in time for this weekend, I decided to get hold of the gaskets and see if I could decrud the Riser and Manifold using Fernox... The riser's come up a treat and will get at least another season out of it. Used an old metal stock pot to soak it for 12hrs heating it up occasionally using a large lpg burner under the pot.

Couldn't do this for the manifold as it obviously wouldn't fit in the pot so had a bit of a brainwave and heated the water up in the pot until it reached approx' 80 degrees then transferred that water to an old oblong shaped coleman cooler box.. I think it'll do the trick and keep the temperature of the water at optimum descaling temp for the required 12hrs. The manifold fits perfectly.

Thought I'd share the tip for those not wanting to run Fernox through the engine and was struggling, like I, as to how to keep the mixture warm overnight whilst it does its thing to the peripheral bits
