About 25 cruisers stopped off at Pendennis Marina. Most were rafted 3 deep.

Great I thought, a chance to meet someone off the forum at last.

Could I get anyone to acknowledge me! No chance.

The lot I went with some years ago were very friendly. They are not necessarily forum members of course but they are subscribers to MBM, the magazine. Are you?

Am i friendly or a subscriber!

I used to subscribe. I found the magazine becoming repetative and repeats from other magazies put me off.
I now occasionally buy off the shelf now.

May have changed but as far as I remember you had to be a subscription buyer to be a member of the MBM Cruising Club which in turn gave you access to the organised cruises. Wouldn't have thought they would have been unfriendly even so - you weren't leering at one of ther SWMBOs were you? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I subscribe to MBM but skip past all the cruise in company bits , so if you need to have a subscription number to get on one , my numbers up for grabs . Don't know why anyone would want to do it though

Steady on chaps. Go easy on the likes of us. I still subscribe to the mag, and find it very informative. I guess one day I might think there's nothing new in it, but not yet. We also are booked on a cruise in company for this August. It just happens to suit us - first time crossing the channel, thought it might be fun to do it with others, daughter on the boat with us so some friends for her to mix with, and good reports from other friends who have been on one. I accept it might not be to everyone's taste, but we are looking forward to it very much.

it used to be an open shop and they used to welcome people down but over the years i have found that "if your names not down your not coming in" all imho.

There are times i have been down and found that i have developed a new super power, how to make my self invisible, so now dont bother, although i did have an invite from Neil for this cruise but they didnt make it this year, well not that i know of.

Goochie

Nothing against the cruise or the people involved.
I did go back to my post and edit words out like un sociable, stuck up. It was just like depol observed, if you are not in you are 100% OUT!

Well we went on one a couple of years back cos we wanted to do France/CI's on our 25 footer in company. I wasn't a subscriber but did read the forum. For novice's (as we were/are) its a great confidence building exercise, and in the case or our group, they were a very sociable and pleasant crowd to be with.

funny how the stray rocks hit home!

Petrollia was on the Normandy one earlier in the year and certainly gave a strong impression of enjoying it overall.

i went on a trailboat one MBM did to Plymouth many years ago and it was a goood way to meet other like minded people and start to get an understanding of the implications of visiting strange (to me) ports of call.

Many aspects of boating are enhanced by good company - getting to meet people in the first place can be tough as so many are somewhat insular with their boats for a lot of reasons.

Have fun in the CIs, fly the forum flag and acknowledge the many others you will see flying as well!

Unusual, everyone is pretty friendly as a rule and Neale and Claire would certainly have given you a warm welcome had they been available...gets pretty busy running one of those events so perhaps they were elsewhere at the time.

I don't think that is intentional...but if you are referring to the control boat guys they do have their hands full 18 hours each day, more often than not, so it's not always easy to find time to socialise a great deal.

No, events open to all as long as you have qualifying boat (terms for this actually more relaxed than when we started these events back in the late 1980s). However subscribers get a discounted entry.

I've assumed you paid for the costs involved in what, in my experience, was quite brilliant organisation. By all means do your own thing, but in the words of the prophet, "Don't knock it until you've tried it" Take goochies objectives above, first time x-channel, company for kids- just the job and I'm sure he won't be disappointed

ps no connection with the management - just a satisfied customer from way back.

Should have added that MBM cruises had a significant impact on my leisure time. First went to Holland on one of them and was so impressed that we now keep our boat there and normally spend 5 or 6 months on board each year!
