So which Port Dinorwic pirate had the honour

Not a PD boat? Damn, I was going to dine out on that one.

Why did they just not cast their anchor adrift. Wouldn't be my first. I have several hunks of metal lying in various locations between Puffin and Red Wharf from my cuddy days fishing the reefs and ledges.

Well as the RNLI had to saw through the chain I'm assuming either it was pure chain no rope, and the shackle fixing it was seized or the chain was in someother way jammed (?in the windlass?)

If they didn't have flares, radio knowledge or life jackets I'm guessing they also didn't have bolt croppers or a hacksaw on-board.

Not being able to discard your chain is just inviting trouble. Even with all chain the bitter end should be octostrand plaited through the last link for that size vessel surely? Undoing a shackle if the chain is under tension is a good way to break a finger or worse. There was such a catalogue of errors the odds were stacked against them that they'd get into trouble at some point.

If three men want to go to sea not equiped then i have no problem it is their choice to take risk ,BUT to take a baby is so wrong ,they should be charged with child neglect
