I was thinking about getting the boat out of the water and doing the boaty things like anodes and A/F. (My first boat so not done it before)

Then it dawned on me, where do I sleep? it's usually on the boat, guess thats not wise while it propped up in the marina car park.

Trouble is if I do it at the holiday times all the local hotels will be booked up, but that's the only time with a reasonable length weekend.

Just wondered what other forumites do.

I am in Chichester

Stay on the boat, it's probably more likely to sink than fall over on the land. This also enables you to get up at 3:30am to finish the antifouling before the boat goes back in at 8am.

i just go down for the day - but i only live an hours drive away.

sob, lifting out this week for antifoul etc. sob -i feel boatless already.

PS it ain't going to topple over with peeps on board, just take a look in a boatyard during winter next time there's a storm. The wind forces are way above a few stone of peeps pottering about

thats what the ebberspacher <sp> is for!!! (whilst on board) and dont forget to winterise those engines and heads!

(not all of that is aim at you, moose-ette /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

aha - i have put my ebby Exhaust were i cannot hang fenders! also i very rarly raft these days, so i dont burn other peoples!

as for servicing - you may have a point with the 3 strikes and your out - untill we get money, is well, excellent from their point of view but a right snafu for the user!

Glad mine does not have that, shall we say, *feature*

Iv'e sleeped on the boat for more than 15 years of boating when its on the hard! never had a problem yet! after all you climb all over it to work on it, so why not kip on it?

Boat weighs more than a few tons - must be propped up very well. I guess you weigh somewhat less. I found myself in this situation a couple of years ago with a trashed proppellor. Four of us had a nice few days climbing ladders. Good opportunity to do fiddly jobs cause boat doesn't move

I felt the same first time we slept aboard, but soon find out as others say how stable it is. We still had friend aboard on drank the obligatory welcome wine etc. Heating kept us warm. Just a pain in the middle of night for a trip to loo, as we had no holding tank.

regularly sleep on boat when on the hard for the winter its our second home for the winter. makes for a cheap few days away in the winter. take lots of dvds and enjoy the peace around about.

Hermees is on the hard twice a day when the tide goes out, never had a problem with sleeping aboard, just have to make sure the tide is in before diving in next morning

Mine's got a Mikuni (spelling ?) most of it's exhaust seems to come in with the heat. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Not had time to look at it yet, but last time I fired it up the fumes were unbearable. Not sure the rest of the marina could stand much of the thick white smoke either /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We get lifted by the yard for antifouling, etc next week in another port not drivable from our house (alot of sea in the way /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif).

We always stay in a motel there while the boat is out of the water. The yard is secure and they do allow one to stay on board and use the yard's facilities etc (and some do) but it is just plain inconvenient doing so.
