Heard a comment this evening that went something like this: This cruising business is cruel and shallow. The money grabbing swindlers are prolific, along with the pimps, thieves and alley dwellers, who all run free. This is where good men die. There is also a negative side.

Well, I have to say, this has and hasn't been my experience. As both city dweller (in my former life) and a cruising sailor (in my current life), I prefer to be the cruising sailor that's challenged with the above.

How about you?

oh yeah, we tramped past him at 10+knots

Mainly, I’m having a great time. It ain’t easy peasy cos in many instances we do things the first time, so there’s problems. But cruising types are mostly fine, sometimes more than fine - sometimes very very wonderful people, and I am not always worthy.

Well I've been lucky enough not to have come across many rogues in my pre- cruising life anyway. But since leaving I have met so £any fantastically generous and interesting people- both other cruisers AND locals that as TCM says, I feel not worthy- I've had to 'up my game' and stop being suspicious of apparent niceness in order to fit in. I'm sure it's not always the case, and I have been to places renowned for the friendliness so far, but anyway that's my current experience.
