Doris has been the Sat Nav in the last two vehicals .. VW Transporter and a Ford Smax .. Both with the same Sat Nav system and the same voice .

Picked up the New Toyota Prius today and been playing with the Sat Nav .. Very posh voice  certainly not a Doris ..

The old one would demand that you 'DO A U TURN' or 'TURN LEFT AFTER 100 METERS' .. .. The Ford Sat Nav was always resetting itself to English Metric ..

So whats yours called ......

That's easy, our plotter/gps is known as "Mr Fish"- and the Raymarine tiller pilot goes by the name of "George" (and a few other swear words!!)

My elder son was responsible for the names... they seem to have stuck.

Fred, short for friggin ridiculous electrical device.

Mind the way English spoken voice pronounces some of the Australian street names is both confusing and amusing at times.

The plotter on the cat is also referred to as Fred.

Good luck.:)

I don't have one, I even turned down a free one when my mum upgraded hers.

Maybe twice a year I could see the point for me personally, so the odd A2Z in an unfamiliar city is a lot of years before buying a navigator would be worthwhile.

My decision to avoid like the plague came in two stages, the first was a 2 hour lecture from my cousin in a pub about his new sat nav, on and on he went. I think I even left him under the impression that I would of course take his advice and buy one, it seemed the simplest option. The other was the glow from the windscreen of all the cars on the motorways at weekends... Has the parents road moved on this journey lol! I even feel embarrassed changing tracks on my ipod, just in case someone thinks I have a nav!

So if I had one it would be useless, so I would call her X-Factor or similar!

moanin an wingin an moanin an moanin an wingin an moanin an wingin an moanin...................

Mine is also George, I thought it was a fairly standard name for autopilots.

According to my dad, though, all seagulls are also called George (apart from a handful called Nigel) so I guess there's scope for confusion.

Pete

Mine is Atiller-the-Hun

Do you see what I did there :D

Wife's car - Jane (it's a Tom Tom and for years this was the only English speaking "personality" available in the menu".)

My car - Helga (slightly stroppy yet efficient and strict Germanic attitude. Well it is an Audi!)

Boat - Otto, as in Otto Pilot...

Oi Are you saying Doris isn't posh!!! Wash your mouth out now, ignorant tos*er.

Tom.

(well it is a Tomtom) Clearly a confused individual though, based on his clear female voice.

Autopilot is called Ray for similar reasons.

And the Chartplotter/race software is called brains.

When we had a Tom Tom, we called it Jeannette, simply because the default female voice sounded just like a Dutch friend of ours.

Slightly off thread, but friends called the tiller pilot on their boat Audrey as it was always moaning, after a mutual acquaintance. :D
