... just to nick a catchy title from somewhere else. But really it's about MDL.

On another thread, John Watson challenged us to list all the things we get from our marinas, sort of justifying the cost etc. And he reckons we can't guess 'em all

So here's what I get\want from mine, in no particualr order of importance.

Pontoon with cleats to tie the boat to
Shore Power
Little trolleys to take stuff to and from boat
Car parking\hard standing
Toilets
Holding tank pump out
Gas
Fresh Water and hose
Showers
Club house, bar and restaurant
Shop\chandlery
Kiddies play area
Dog walking area
Litter\rubbish bins
Engineer\mechanic on site
Lighting on pontoons
Grass cut and place kept nice and tidy
A bit of cameraderie
Someone keeping an eye on things, so a bit of security
General advice about where to go, how to get things fixed etc.
Navigation info, weather forecasts and tide times
Someone to pay lots of money to

Then additional things I pay extra for
Lift out
Jet washing and antifouling

So what have I missed?

In your list of services, you forgot to mention the following:

Petrol at a huge markup
Marina staff who when asked to perform a service for you reply by sucking a large amount of air through clenched teeth whilst replying "not this week mate"

Piston
You've got to be joking. Do you know the economics of petrol at a marina? I would rather not sell it at all but my customers want it.
As for the staff comment, since the end of August I have received around 200 customer comments cards - 75% of the make favourable noises about our staff. I have not had ONE complaint about them.
What's your problem?

Re: Coliholic

P'rhaps your customers want it because that's what their boats use and diesel in a petrol engine don't work.
Living on the Broads, petrol is now almost non-existant as ther are only 2 outlets in over 200 miles of waterways. However, at 90p per litre i can understand why it is becoming rare and it's nothing to do with people not wanting it, they just can't bloody afford it!!!!

Wanted......BMC 1.5 Diesel & 1:1 Borg Warner gearbox
