Me - I’m travelling 1500 miles back from Portugal to go to the Walton & Frinton Yacht Club (WFYC) Taster Day.

The WFYC are having an open day to show what their end of the famous Walton Backwaters has to offer, including trying dinghy sailing, rides on the safety boats, BBQ & bar, with things for all ages (including crabbing for the Dads).

Easy to get to the WYFC by road: for directions & super pictures of the whole area have a look at, http://marinas.com/view/marina/6637_Bedwell_Company_Boatyard_Walton_on_the_Naze_GB_United_Kingdom.

Other (more exciting) possibilities would be to anchor at Stone Point, pick up a buoy in the Walton Channel or stop over at Titchmarsh & venture up Foundry Reach by dinghy. For the truly adventurous, they could consider an overnight stop (continuously afloat) in The Walton Pond. If you are contemplating using The Pond contact Bedwells (above) for up-to-date details on access times & berthing.

High tide will be at about 1215 so water-borne activities will be from 1000 to 1400.

For full details & anything you could ever want to know about the Walton Backwaters & the club is on their super website www.wfyc.co.uk.

I’m sure my journey will be well worthwhile!

Further to my post above, I have been asked, "Will there be enough car parking around the club at high water?" If memory serves me there should be plenty but any thoughts?

The space immediately around the yacht club will be somewhat restricted due to the events that are happening. There is some free parking spaces in Mill Lane, the road leading to the entrance of the yacht basin and W&FYC. At the top end of Mill Lane near the High Street there is a car park which you will have to pay for parking in. It is a couple of minutes walk from the yacht club.

Leaving the Crouch on Sat

Hi
Leaving the Crouch on Sat, bound for where the wind will take us. Thinking Gravelines or Rye kight be there by Monday, or if its foul we could find ourselves up toward Walton. Still it is a week sailing :)

Wish I was going sailing, lucky beggars the lot of you

I shall be putting in 12 plus hour days twiddling knobs and herding musicians (which is very much like herding sheep but with a lot more bah and a lot less useful end product!) at Stroud on Water in hopefully sunny Gloucestershire

Latest plan is to be in Tollesbury marina swimming pool with 193 other people :D
We'll dress The Kipper in every flag we've got, including the pink pirate and the Vatican City naval ensign I got on eBay last year.

I actually have HWMO as crew from Friday to Sunday :D and we are intending to to up to the Blackwater - maybe Maldon. Or -depending on all variables - we may go to Calais too. However, we also have tickets for the Thames pageant on Sunday, so may come back and go to that (weather dependent). Then 'Laurin' is borrowing Black Magic for a couple of days (due to their engine failure) we I may join them on Monday and Tuesday in the Crouch.

God bless the Queen - extra holidays - yaaaaay!
