Met office issued a statement this morning saying they got it all wrong about a good summer! The revised statement is saying the weather is unlikely to settle down until the end of August! Oh Joy!!

The weather is just about as good as the economic climate then? Perhaps if we get a change of government it might change our fortunes with the weather? don't hold your breath though!! The next time some clot tells me there is global warming I think I might just strangle them! its all a ploy to separate you from your money.

global warming blocks street drains, floods homes, reason? so much word removedword removedword removedword removed in the sewers due to lack of flushing. When did you last see a street cleaner??

2.5 weeks in Florida during August... hot humid thunderous weather there too, just omitting the first two words when thinking of the UK in August ;-)

Can we officially place "Barbecue Summer" in the same hallowed place as "A hurricane isn't coming". How much of our money could be saved if the met' office went back to making forecasts instead of staring at computer screens?

...or its associated costs. 3rd year on the bounce this weather is just blimmin awful. Fair enough May & June were nice, but that's only part of the year. It should be July & Aug that's nice as well. Just annoyinng and frustrating. Rant over!

To add some balance, late June, early July was lovely - we had 3 weeks, of which only a few days were a bit windy. Mostly it was lovely.

I think the secret is to avoid late July and August (ie. the kids school holidays).

I've come to this conclusion myself but it's slightly problematic when you have two school-age kids and your better half works at a Primary School.....

However, this Saturday we're heading for a place in Southern France for a couple of weeks, where it looks a bit warmer. It'll then only be a fortnight until September, when everyone goes back to work or school and the weather magically improves :D

I think south coast was better than North Wales...Our good weather stopped at the end of June, like turning off a switch!

BTW - I do like your Elling, why is she for sale and what do you think you'll get next?

We love the Elling - but we have plans to go further afield. Much further afield, possibly all the way around - so we're looking at catamarans next (most likely sail rather than power). My wife has had a few eyesight problems the last few years so we want to do this sooner rather than later.

Trouble is, everytime I make for the exit at work, they keep persuading me to stay a bit longer....

..........I'm so glade I have two weeks off in August.... in a tiny boat.... with SWMBO & 6 year old...... something tells me I'm going to be booking last minute holiday to Turkey. Sod it.

Same here, first two weeks in August we are on boat with three children. Rain means moaning about being bored, Can't wait!

Yup, quite why anyone believes Met Office forecasts, I don't know. Apart from the infamous 'no hurricane' clanger and this year's 'bbq summer', there was also the 'drier and warmer than average' summer in 2007 which gave us some of the worst flooding for years. There was some poor Met Office sap on the radio this morning saying that didn't we all understand that weather forecasting was about mathematical probabilities rather than hard facts. So there you have it. In the future it will probably rain, the sun will probably shine and it will probably get dark at night. Why we taxpayers spend hundreds of millions of squids on these bozos at the Met Office every year, I don't know. We'd probably be better off peering into a bucket of seaweed for a weather forecast
