Clive
spotted your post too late to wave at you from the Cutter in Ely /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif....which is now a splendid watering hole and eatery /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

But wondered how it went.
Friday and Saturday seemed a bit calm but Sunday was definitely not very nice.

Aaahhhhh

I thought he was going this weekend....

that means I CAN wave him past the Cutter /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Nice weather please /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Not according to the forecast I'm looking at /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Could do with a Guapacast I think /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well after Clive's tribulations towing Serenia at the back end of last season, I suspect he is looking for the shortest possible tarmac distance between home and a patch of damp grass to float it on.

Sirenia was successfully launched onto the River Cam yesterday.
(5 miles of tarmac from home)
We had a short shakedown for the engine with it's new fuel system followed be an oil change.

As has been pointed out the weather is not looking good for next weekend.
Looks like it will be Plan B.
I have a 7 day river licence so Friday and Saturday could be a River Cruse with an overnight in Ely.
Back on to her trailer on Saturday afternoon.
An early Sunday morning SLOW trip along the A14 and launch on the mid-day tide at Woodbridge.

The coastal trip will have to wait for a year when Easter is at a more sensible time.

Clive
I may be in the Cambridge area next weekend, yet another collection I need to make /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif so let us know any timings a bit closer to the day and we might even manage a mini gathering.

Dougie

You would be most welcome.
PM sent with more details.

Dave.

I will let you have firm plans later.
It looks like Friday night in Ely.
May be the Cutter Inn.

With the forecast for the North Norfolk Coast for Saturday giving winds of 25 knots + with gusts up to 35 Knots from the North with 4M plus waves Plan B has been activated.

We shall be in Ely on Friday evening at The Cutter Inn.

Expect to launch in Woodbridge on Sunday morning.
Not booked the slipway yet but hope it will be o.k.

O.K - Cruise report:-

Friday - with much tooing a frowing the crew ended up as my Son and myself.
Went up to Cambridge and mixed it with a few rowing 8's much to me rowing sons amusement.
Then back down to Ely into the teeth of a very cold northerly near gale.

Went to the Cutter Inn on riverside for supper and saw Mr. & Mrs T25 once they had found their war round the back lanes of Ely.
Back on board had a Text from Dougie 3 Bottles to say that he was available for today.

D3B arrived in time to get underway about 9:30.
We headed back up river with a following wind and rain, sleet and snow showers.
We must be mad!

Once back at the Sailing club we got Sirenia back onto her trailer and went to maneuver her around to point at the gate.
I made a mistake at stopping on the wet grass and trying to reverse back onto the road way.
Ended up with the trailer well bogged in and the Range Rover just spinning its wheels.
After much unsuccessful digging, putting tracks under RR wheels, dodging snow showers etc. we managed to put some hard core under the RR wheels and with the help of another club member in his Disco we got things rolling again.

Sirenia is now tucked away under my bed again.

My thanks to Dougie for all his help today.

Still to decide if we are going to head off along the A14 tomorrow.
Looking at the forecast I think we may leave it until next weekend.

Glad to hear you're back safely Clive, but us Range Rover owners are not supposed to admit that we needed help from a Dizzy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dave

I am not to proud to accept help when in a mess.
I could probably have got moving be being a complete animal with the RR but I would have dug some major ruts in my new sailing club grass car park and that would not have made me very popular.

It was good to meet you and Louise again last night.
I enjoyed your candid story of your 1st experience with the Burch-wood. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Dougie enjoyed the retelling of the tale. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

A thoroughly enjoyable day.
I found all my old fishing thermal gear to keep me warm, which it did....but it took me ages to get in and out of it....slightly larger than i used to be. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Walking from the car to Sirenia I had serious doubts about my sanity.

the weather did its worst. Rain, snow, hail, wind and loads of sunshine /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It really was nice to have trip on the river where i began boating....even if i mistook a bend in the river for the fork of the Old West and the Cam....where i said the Fish & Duck once stood. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

And the good news when I got home was a call from Dad saying he was very well, back on his original tablets and looking forward to the big match tomorrow.

Thanks Clive....but maybe next time the weather could be a bit nicer. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

It has been suggested that I write the whole thing up for MBM, but not sure the world should bear witness to my inadequacies /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Larf, well afterwards yes, but at the time I was trying to take the whole thing so seriously /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I shall recount our first fatefull trip in full eventually, but take my word for it, never trust a woman (who takes a dislike to anything on a boat) to tell you if you're clear of bridges or not /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Let's just say that it's not easy to get out from under a bridge when you're stuck hard with the grab rails against steel pipes, but we got there in the end, even if it did mean dismantling the entire cockpit, windows and all /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Plan B Phase II has been abandoned due to unseasonal snow /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif and a roast Lamb lunch has replaced it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Plan C is to head for the A14 next Saturday to launch at Levington and sail round to the Deben.
That should mess the weather up for next weekend as well /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
