I want to thank those who contributed to the "How far out is too far" thread. It turned into a thread mainly about my trip rather than the topic I was hoping we could discuss but a lot of good stuff came out of it anyway.

I just wanted to post that I have decided not to post questions of general interest anymore. I really don't want every thread I post to turn into a discussion about the trip and anyway, it would become boring for you lot!

Please don't take this as be going into a huff... nothing could be further from the truth. It is just that I have a lot of stuff to do now and I simply don't have the time to robustly defend my position all the time. I respect your doubts (those that have them) and I certainly have taken onboard every comment, positive and negative and I thank you for your enthusiasm to discuss it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So, I will post from time to time but mainly about issues directly associated with the trip or else I will keep quiet. I think I have to do this at least until I have the bulk of the planning done.

Please, PM me (I always answer PMs) or even better, go to www.roundbritain.org.uk and sign up for the forum there where I will discuss anything to do with the trip. Regular news updates are also posted there so pop in from time to time please.

I am sorry if you think this post unnecessary. Everyone (well almost everyone!) has been so good since I announced the trip that I didn't want to just stop posting without an explaination... you might think I had the hump or something... NOT TRUE /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Have fun and remember... I will be reading and watching...

Arny - if you'd posted that you were going round the world in a bathtub someone would have said they'd done it standing on one leg on a shower tray whilst singing La Marseillaise or told you to make sure you had all the necessary paper charts. So it goes.

Good luck Arny /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I invite you to change your mind at any time and to start posting again /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You will be welcomed by most. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You will also benefit from help closer to the time

Yup all my own work... well, to be honest it is a Joomla! template but the contents is all mine.

If anyone wants one have a look at my business site at www.latchbrookcomputers.co.uk . I could do yours for a reasonable price I am sure!!!!

I use Joomla because I can get a reasonable looking site up and running in hours rather than days as I did before.

Good luck Arny. My boats also called Stargate. I will be following your trip with interest.. Swimbo also wants me to circumnavigate the U.K in the summer all in one week taking in the Orkneys Dublin The Scillies and Guernsey to boot. We shall be starting and returning to Dover. Were going around anti-clockwise so i may give you a wave. Did i mention its on a little boat called 'The Van Gough' Dave.

Arny, I would have taken the huff. Frankly some of the responses to this thread have been a disgrace. I'm glad I don't have to rely on some forumites! They are not like the boat people I know. I've signed up to your forum and SWMBO and I will follow your progress with interest and will make every effort to contact you and offer any support we can when you are in the West of Scotland. Shame on them comes to mind.

just quickly Arny yer didnt answer my question on your other thread, which was why did you have to get the boat MCA coded? I assume you have a life raft too?

Keep the posts coming Arnie......don't let the buggers get you down!!
Great to hear all the build up to your trip. It's a huge ask, but I think planned correctly and not time bound, pick your weather and you'll be fine.

I also remember the advise you gave us last year about the rounding some of the headlands on our first trip West, so strongly believe we should all seek advise and help each other as much as possible. For the good of this forum lets keep it that way.

All the best - Phil

I had a look on your web & it is a credit to you, you said you did not want advise, more how would you do it in your boat.
I'd take each day as it comes in small hops day sailing.
Good luck to you.

I agree and I really do what that kind of helpful advice. My web site has a forum where peole are encouraged to post info that you feel might be useful to me on a leg or generally.

But it is the ones that disregard my experience, my posts, the fact that I am being closely monitored by very experienced people at the RNLI, that I am being completely open about my route planning decisions... some people just want to have a go and that gets me down and just a bit angry after all the time that I am putting in to the project to make sure it is as safe as ANYONE could make it... short of getting a bigger boat!!!

Your statement...

encompasses my thoughts entirely.

Many thanks

The last one I did most of the UK coast in was 1500 tons. Mate & Engineer & still took each day as it comes, bigger hops though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck with the adventure, and fair sailing. Dare to dream, dare to live, life is for living. You seem to be planning this with care and diligence so to heck with the 'knockers' let them sulk in their own huffs.

Best wishes and good luck with the trip.

Arny,

I think you are mad but good luck to you . . . personally I'd rather do it in a Coribbee. I suppose the good thing about a wee mobo is it is usually over quickly.

There are a lot of whingers on here who never do anything very exciting - I suspect they resent those that do as they feel there is some sort of implied criticism.

Off to look at Joomla! now
