For boats that cannot be sold without 4 tons of fake marble,4 electric bogs and spend 99.99999999% of their lives moored to the nearest berth at the disco down at the marina and spend the other .0000001% nipping round to the next bay at 50 knots and back again perhaps.
This is will be a unique system able to be maintained only by Volvo and spares again only from Volvo, fine for the first owner but what about the next.Only place you will get it sorted will be with main dealer equipment and main dealer prices.
Your draggy old shafts can be sorted cheaply by any decent boatyard from Scotland to Plymouth.Still feel sure any owner/broker will mention that when selling boat to you.
One other thing,if your boat is to big to lift near where you need attention ,you will have to get it towed to repairer to remove from the briny. No way to slip with that advanced system and be interested to see the design for any trailer needed to launch from your local handy slipway.

I thort I'd got rid of half the volsplutter stuff when I got shafts. Only to discover I'd got the same poxy gearboxes that I had in the last outdrive boat, so that was four I replaced. Now they want me to buy a back to front oudrive, suppose you need Vsplutter oil V spanners, course you will be encombered with a 3 year warantee which means that you can be fleased by the vsplutter heavy mob for years to come!!

Be lucky to get a 3 year warranty, I think its just one year now even on the IPS. Cue oldgit to complain some more about a system that hes not forced to buy or use. (Wonder what happens if Princess launch a boat using IPS /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Old git will get no arguments from me, I started with a big outboard, real thirsty brute, then to a large outdrive but even that was devoured by the 180 Sabre, then I saw a programme on tele about a guy named Brunell and that swung it for me. The only other means of propulsion that can be called reliable is, dare I say it wind.

Since IPS is designed to replace shafts on 40 - 50ft boats at the moment, don't think launching it from a local slipway would be an option, unless you like to trailer it on your own lowloader, in which case access for the lowloader would probably be a much bigger problem /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
A question for you
Why are you making such a big fuss over something you DON'T have to buy, and which may end up not even being around in 20 years time, complaining about the upkeep cost of the system when that info , as far as I know, is not available and presuming it is successful, how long before other manufacturers jump on the bandwagen?

Re: So its the end of shafts in less than 20 years........MBM.page 116

Its true what Mike said. Also bear in mind that the same things were said about outdrives when Volvo first put them on the market. After a few years all the other manufacturers followed suit.

Oldgit, I really can't see the point of this post and your one about American boats, its clear you have an opinion on these things, but their so unbalenced and full of personel predudice and generalisations. Not even worth reading, infact I don't know why I'm replying, this forum has really gone down hill since I last stopped by.

Exactly, that's why I won't reply either, even to try and put a balanced view point forward, as it will simply be used to put forward more bigoted arguements. Better to stay quiet and let the threads die
