So did the rise in diesel price make ANY difference to your boat use.

Not noticeably down here judging from recent visitors to the Medway from the Thames, the fact that we only just managed to squeeze into St Kats over Easter and the number of boats out and about over the the weekend.

And as for for all that b.........x by some now absent forumite about the collapse of the boat market in the UK and fuel at £ £££ a gallon, some of us are still scanning the market for all those big flybridges being given away and mass reposssions by marine mortgage companies.
Maybe one or two bargains have surfaced but certainly nothing approaching the marine armageddon.
So anybody actually sold up and got out esp down in Wales or wherever it was that half the harbour was having to sell cos they could not afford the price of a litre of red.

No difference here either.
Boat fecked cos of a nackered heat exchanger.
New £2000!
Just located a secondhand one.

Anyway, been driving other peeps boats all year.

Made no difference at all, mine's petrol!

Folks, It costs em more in Pet Food than fuel.

Plus alchahol for the owner of a boat close by that they use as a Skip!!!

260 hours in the last 14 months and off on a west country/CI cruise for 2 1/2 weeks from tomorrow. More use than ever therefore. I've had more time than before, point is the diesel didn't make a difference. If it had got to the feared £1.20 I would have converted to chip fat which when diesel was expensive was going for about 50p - I think it's about 40p at the moment.

As seen en route to Dartmouth last week.

Go On My Son!
Brill.
I hate seeing Mobos stuck in the Marina rotting.

Mine included.

Cos mines been bust for a while, it has been frustrating.

Because I can lay My hands on about 900 litres of free chip fat per annum fer nowt.
I was thinking of converting.

Traditionally I use about 900 litres per season.
She don,t sup much. Not like the Skipper! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did sell up, but missed the boat more than I expected. so just bought another. decided that I would be a long time dead so sod the fuel price (fortunately the worst didnt happen)

I filled up about ten days ago (first time since the 60:40 business) and to be honest I didn't even bother working out how much I was paying per litre. OK so we do have reduced speed in the back of our minds (until I get my new boat that is, tee hee) but that's probably resultant of all the stuff on here and in the press.

Judging by the amount of stationary boats in my marina there's only a few (as always?) mobo owners clocking up big engine hours.

Er, Rick. I know you have one of those funny steel dutch things, but I *think* you'll find the derv is better off in the fuel tank. Clue's in the name....

Re: So did the rise in diesel price make ANY difference to your boat u

Not one bit; in fact this season shaping up to be our best by a long long way. Already got 464nm logged, and as long as I can get the cone clutch in the port outdrive fixed reasonably quickly we should make 1000nm before the year's out, esp if business continues to be on the quiet side.

Not having a bigger boat and my son now being at school making much more of a difference. Anyway, what price rise? I'm paying 10ppl less than this time last yr.

Not so much for me.... stocked up before the increase, but now travel at a few knots slower rather than 35kts everywhere.

Noticable however that the larger beasts dont go out as much. Thres a P50 (OK its the largest in our marina) that used to be out every w/e , but now hardly ventures out. Perhaps the local diesel at 95p has something to do with it!

Well I sold the Diesel inboard and bought a Petrol outboard boat.

The Risk of expensive Diesel was just part of the issue.

Anyway Price of Diesel just gone up 4p in the Budget here to 67.9p! Time to buy a twin Diesel I think...
