snubbing at anchor - hook or hitch?

I use a stainless Bow Shackle beacause that is what I have!

If I had a chain hook I would use that.

The mind boggles . Previously did two rolling hitches direct onto chain . Great to install but strains back and toenails to take off .

So now connect warps to hook via spliced eyes and any available snap type shackles. Putting hook on chain is just like fishing .

However still being innovative am now thinking of 3rd but light warp with rolling hitch but slack with other end attached to skipper's big toe as anchor warp slip alarm .

We chartered a cat in the BVIs on which there was a permanently rigged bridle with a hook in the middle. There was also a retrieval line led underneath the trampoline back to where the chain exited from the windlass / locker.
So all you had to do was anchor, let out the chain, put on the hook and let a little more chain out (actually quite a bit more chain, to get the bridle all the way forward). And if you lost the hook off the chain, you used the retrieval line to bring it back and try again.
