We took our boat out for the first time in March from Alcudia Marina in Majorca for a little spin around the bay - The temp was about 14c, but the previous night they had snow in the hills. This is a view from the flybridge with snow covered peaks, whilst pottering about trying all the controls out! Having said that the wind was freezing though!

Pic brings back happy memories of Alcudia - never seen snow on those mountains before though /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Sounds like this is your first trip on P38, what's the verdict.

Really great Thanks - We have just had it serviced and antifouled, and it easily got up to 30knots, and handled so well. On the trip back across the bay the wind whipped up the water, so we had waves breaking across the bow, but the boat just seemed to cut through it, and felt very solid.

We had a RYA guy with us on first day, who took us all (SWMBO, and Son and Daughter no.1) out to show us how to manouver and generally get comfortable with the handling.

The shafts got a little getting used to, but by the end of the day we had it spinning on its axis, and stern mooring almost like experts.

Having said that we took it out the following day, but had to move mooring, so having spent the day reversing into a left hand mooring, we were now doing this the other way and attempting to reverse onto the right hand side.

All this took place of course opposite a cafe with lots of people drinking coffee and watching, and I have to say I cocked it up 3 times, turning too late, or spinning the wrong way, but on the 4th try it slipped in ok. There was no one next to my mooring, so we then started to drift at an angle, so thank goodness for the bow thruster - all lined up and tied down. Of course the watching coffee drinkers pretended not to notice, but I am sure they were marking sheets, and at any moment i expected signs showing my score.

All in all a great boat, and I am really looking forward to some longer and warmer days!

Re: I was there!

Thanks - I was expecting a 8/6/10 spread, but hey ho - theres always next time. Why is it the more people that are watching the more flustered you get? SWMBO was telling me 'calm down dear - line the boat up and start again'! its normally the other way around....

Good on ye Martyn. You are now nicely set up for the summer. Keep an eye on the fouling when the weather gets hot as you will loose quiet a bit of speed.
At least when the waves are breaking on your bow in Alcudia the spray dosn't freeze you to death /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've seen plenty. I bought a boat from Peters in Cala d'Or a few years back and we were due to fly out one February weekend for the handover. A couple of days beforehand, they sent me a picture by e-mail showing my boat covered in snow and asking whether we really did want to come out! We cancelled
Another time in Majorca, we decided to drive the mountain road and were turned back by police a few miles beyond Soller as the road was blocked with snow and again last April, we saw snow flurries in Palma in April
The locals give you the usual tosh about it never happening before and it'll be sunny tomorrow!
