Search under :'snapdragon & mirage owners association', they do exist & you should find your info there.

Welcome to the madhouse!

Your Snapdragon will have been built like the proverbial brick privy by Thames Marine, who were based on Canvey Island. There's an owners' association, details here . (Click the blue bit to follow the link and have a little hunt.)

I don't know the 23, but have a 24.

If yours is anything like mine, which has encapsulated bilge keels, the water tank is under the quarter berth. Lift the cushion to get at the filler. With a clean bum and decent sails, she'll go nicely off the wind, but is best regarded as a motorsailer if the wind's much forward of the beam. That apart, she'll look after you long after you wish you'd stayed at home.

I doubt the electrics will be very standard in a 35 year-old boat, so I'm afraid you're pretty much on your own there.

Good luck - they're a great little boat!

as far as i know, the 23 and 24 were hugely different boats.the 23 is a lifting keel, and seems to be slightly more performance orientated(not saying much)there is no water tank on the boat, and no electrics, except a starter for an engine that it doesnt have

I only asked because a guy from Malta was asking about a boat on the Classic Boat Forum which turned out to be a snapdragon 21.

This name & address might be useful too:

For more information contact Mrs S Byde, Snapdragon Owner's Association, 83 Lymington Avenue, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex SS9 2AL, UK

Good luck, you're obviously going to have some fun /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Funny ....... all the papers and Bristows etc. - all quote 23 as Self Draining Cockpit ..... mine NEVER was till I raised cockpit sole myself ....

I loved my 23 ..... she was a good boat, solid built and able to take a pounding ... but very wet in any seas.

I took out the original Vire 6 and put an outboard into a self-cut well at back of cockpit ...... The engine bay was too low for most engines with its limited height. But Petters etc. fitted ....

This is where history plays up ..

My father and I used to 'race' a 23 ...... YEP ... RACE a 23 !!

It was a lifting keel version and Number SD09 ..... we were told that first 10 lift-keel versions were considered more for Club Race and then later boats were 'beefier' and the longitudinal profile altered ---- that I know is fact about the bow - having had our #9 alongside a later one - our bow did not incline up as the other did.

My 23 later when I 'grew-up' and bought my own toys ..... was a triple keeler and needed a good breeze to get going.

As to all Snaps ...... each size was significantly different to each other ... one post here mentions the 24 ..... so different to 23 as to the uninitiated would think from different builders !!

If you have Lift Keel version ...... its the best 23 ...... in my opinion .....

Re: This is where history plays up ..

As far as I could find ..... I had no number moulded or cut anywhere on my boat ...... the only ID was the Sail Number issued by Snapdragon on commissioning of boat.

You don't have original sails so thats difficult .....

But really it not worth the effort - get her up to condition and enjoy her !!
