Whilst I'm having a bit of a post, I don't suppose anyone knows what fixing is used inside the cockpit lockers of a Snapdragon 23, to hold the Traveller rail to the top of the transom?

Mine has a fair blob of fibreglass over the fixing, so before I start chipping away at it, would be handy to know what lies beneath.

My rail is wobbly and needs tightening..

(I've posted the same question on the Snapdragon Owners Forum so hopefully someone somewhere will know the answer.. :-) )

Thanks,

Nik

a Grrrrreat big whitworth nut is my guess .
& why the hell do folk glass over fixings that shouldn't leak in the first place

I'd go with that... If I was relying on fibreglass on the underside of the nut, to keep the water out, I'd be asking for my money back... Even in 1970!

we didnt even do that sort of thing in 1969 ;):D
get an old wood chisel between the patch & deck hd , an assortment of spanners or a King Dick, remove & re bed with a good backing plate

I have to ask, what on earth is a King Dick? I'm a little reluctant to ask if anyone has one, at the Sailing Club. :D

IIRC the traveller bar is about 10mm (3/8ths") so I'd guess a penny washer and a nut. Mine was always a bit wobbly but I never bothered to fix it :o

I'm tempted to leave it but since I'm going all super-duper re-doing the cockpit floor and well transom, plus a repaint, I feel a bit guilty leaving a very wobbly traveller.

(Obviously i won't be saying that when all the skin is off my knuckles, trying to stop the wobble. :) )

Had a crack at uncovering the Nuts that hold the rail on. oooo i could crush a grape. They are the most B*****d awful things to get to and they have been encased in fibreglass. (No doubt a cr*p way of trying to stop them from getting loose.

Anyway, I think the world will be turned blue with my language for some time, before I gain enough access to them, armed with a chisel and squeezed into my cockpit locker..

Curses to whoever did that bit of my boat!!

a Fien multi tool might help as it can be used one handed @ arms length

Good thinking.. I'll check 'em out. It's a real pig of a job just to tighten two nuts and somehow the flakes of fibreglass manage to get past my safety glasses and end up in my eye. I was a very angry man today.. The tranquil image of sailing was nowhere to be seen. :)
