snap shackles are they or not

Hi am I the only one that finds snap shackles difficult to close with one hand? It appears as if the locking pins are a few thou two long, I have thought that perhaps a small washer at the back would hold the pin back enough to enable it to snap shut, but why don't the manufacturers make them so they will snap shut when pressed together?

No. I have several like that. Both brass and s/s. A bit of careful filing can help temporarily - but I think the short answer is that the pivot pin wears out and they need to be replaced.
