Snap davits for Cranchi Zaffiro 34

The most sensible option here for storage is snap davits, correct?
Imho, nope. This was my favourite arrangement for the Z34 tender.
Feasible up to 2.5/2.6 max., but 3m is too big on such boat anyway, also with davits.

Hi folks,
Friend is getting a 3m inflatable (Probably this one: http://www.marineparts.ie/boats-and...inghies/waveco-3-0m-air-floor-inflatable.html ) to put on the back of his Cranchi Zaffiro 34. The most sensible option here for storage is snap davits, correct?

Can anyone recommend a particular type, or give any advise? As this is something I have absolutily no clue about.

Thanks a lot

Z34's used to come with Benzoni Retractable davits, but not sure how well the set up worked as they seemed to stop doing them in about 2004. The best option, as stated, is the Passerelle but not likely on a UK speced boat. Failing that I would definitely go for Removable Snap davits. Basically you put two Stainless steel plates on the swim platform which are quite flush then slide in the snap davits. This reduces toe damaging injuries when diving off the back! For an idea here is a picture (bottom right)

Personally I think snap davits is the only way to go, anything else generally looks ugly and leaves trip hazards on the bathing platform.

I managed to mount mine under the bathing platform (see attached pic). Doing it this way leaves the bathing platform totally clear and you don't have to hoof the dinghy up to get it on the davits.

If mounting underneath you must make sure you mount the pads on the dinghy high enough to allow the dinghy to clear the end of the bathing paltform when the dinghy is pulled up.

I don't have to use any stand off arms either as the tension between the dinghy and the bathing platform hold it steady and I just have to tie it off with a small rope.

As mentioned earlier, a 3mtr dinghy might be a bit too big for a Zaffiro 34. A 2.7 is probably better suited.

Thinking about it... Depends on how old the Ziffiro is as I believe the boats with the bigger bathing platforms have them just bolted on over the top of the old one so may not allow you to mount underneath?

KevB,

How did you attach the davits to the underside of the bathing platform - locking bolts or self locking bolt mechanism or even self tapping screws? Did you manage to gain access to the inside of your platform?

I'm looking at fitting snap davits but worry about the holding power of screws and so the need for bolts on the inside. Only problem is access over the engines to the inside of the platform is tight to say the least. I have found on the net some interesting looking self locking (or rather opening) bolts which screw in from the outside, but haven't heard of them being used in practice.

Thanks
