Smokey KAMD300 & checking injectors

We've been having a problem with the port engine which is producing CONSIDERABLE amount of soot after only an hours drive. This can't be put down to being a volvo 'feature' as the stbrd side of the bathing platform is fine.

So, we rang the local engineer, who suggested that the injetors should be checked. Sounds fine, except the estimate was 12 hours for just taking the injectors out and putting them back again. All other work is on top of that.

12 hours sounds a bit high. Can anyone advice whether this is reasonable or am I being taken for a ride.

Otherwise the engine seems fine. Filters checked, etc.

I Had All 12 Injectors Out A Few Weeks Ago By My Local Engineer & It Took Less Than 2 Hours Each Way !
Had Too Replace All 12 Nozels At A Cost Of €1400 /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Sounds like my recent problem. Check injectors is correct move. Should be able to "service" them - otherwise replacement can be expensive. 12 hours to remove is VERY excessive. Only a few pipes to remove before access to injectors.

Had six done last July. Out, but me, never done it before, about 90 minutes. Two days with LSUK, new nozzles on all six, full recon and looked new to me, £180. Back in again another 90 minutes or so plus beeld time. Nozzles were fubar so the tight thing to do. Still smokes like a beggar though:-(

12 hours is taking the whatsit unless that is total time to remove, recon and replace all 12, might just be beleiveable

12 hours sounds like they don't want the job. KAD300's are worse than most, lots of bits to take off, also on an F37 they might have to dismantle parts of the boat to get access to the tops of the engines.

Never done it myself, but it seemed high. The explanation was that in this particular model it's more complicated and you need to dismatle this and that before you get to the injectors...

They always say that...

I think the true reason is that he's never done it before as they just became 'official' Volvo engineers.

They left their first customer thinking twice whether to go back or not, though...
