Smelly Cockpit cover

Following on for the other cover post below, does anyone know how to get the mouldy smell out of a cockpit cover? until i bought the boat last year the cover had spent the last 30 years in the cockpit locker, needless to say its got mould spots and smells dreadful!

Just had the same problem with a cockpit cover that had been stored in the forward cabin locker for x years!! First I stuck it in a dustbin full of warm soapy water for an hour then layed it out on a plastic sheet and rubbed it over with a sponge and more soapy water. Finished with a hose off and layed it out over washing line/step ladder to dry.

Smells loverly now but not sure if it's still waterproof!!

Soak it in the bath with some fabric conditioner.
