Smelliest facilities - L'Aber Wrach?

Working our way down the West French coast, we are still reeling from the stench in the shower block at L'Aber Wrach. That was over a week ago and is still a talking point!

Are we past the worst, or is there worse to come, especially as the summer warms up?

In the course of sailing round Britain 3 times, the smelliest facilities I came across were Port Edgar. Are they still like that?

It must have been especially bad or to have a fault as we have been in L'Aberwrach many times and never noticed anything wrong with the shower block. In fact in many seasons cursing N and S Brittany coasts the smell of the shower blocks has never been a talking point as there was never anything to talk about.

We are hoping to be down there again with Serendipity in a couple of months time.

I was there at the start of the month and l'aber's showers were fine.

We called in at L'Aber Wrach last year on our way to our new cruising grounds in the Rias of Galicia and did not notice anything amiss.

The absolutely foulest facilities I have come across anywhere were on one of the islands in the Grevelingen Meer. The authorities had installed an "Ecological digesting toilet system" It was supposed to recycle in some way and "digest" the solids. What actually happened was that the flushing water was just pulverised sh*t in suspension and stank unbelievably.

The only half way tolerable technique was to hold your breath for as long as it took - if possible - and then get dressed, open the door, press the flush handle and run.

I gather from friends who stayed there a year or so later that it had been replaced by conventional chemical toilets. Obviously an experiment that failed.

Concarneau worse €5 for a shower ... That REALLY stunk !

Torquay town dock showers !!!! They are in the public toilets consisting of a couple of cubicles tacked onto the end of the traps . If that isn't bad enough they are right opposite the urinal . On a hot summer day the stench is appalling. An absolute horror .....pity as the rest of the facilities offered are quite good.
