Reports came into our club yesterday of an elderly small Westerly, about 23-24ft, having been found tied to Kingsnorth jetty during the last few days, and apparently abandoned.

Boat name "Jacanda"- anyone know who owns her and contact numbers etc.

Old boats

You'r the one who said it had been abandoned. I was just pointing out that there may be a few more if what is happening in America happens over here .. I have always wondered why anyone would want to pay for a Marina berth for a boat that is never used .. Its just when the bill falls on the mat for £3000 that you realise that what you have is not worth the cost of the mooring .. It will cost you to sell it if you can find a MUG to buy it .. So what do you do with it .. Leave it lying around and hope some MUG will come along and offer it a good home .. Its only my opinon .. He could have left it and forgoton where .. Fell in and got washed away .. He may never want to see it again .. :D :D

There were a couple of boats in Brightlingsea that never seemed to move from one year to the next, no one visit them either. When I was chatting with HM I commented on it and his answer was that unfortunately for some folk it is an easier solution to keep paying the mooring fee than deal with disposing of the boat!

What do you do with an ancient fibreglass hull other than sink it or take a chainsaw to it?

Oh, right- I didn't realise what you were getting at- apologies

Kingsnorth jetty has no lawful public access as it simply serves the power station and it is the police and Medway Ports who have concluded abandonment of the vessel, but it could be something else for one wonders how someone coming ashore there could have done so without being seen leaving the complex on foot, especially with the high profile this installation has with eco protesters and as a potential terrorist risk.

All local clubs have been asked if the owner/boat is known and that still remains the question I believe.

The Westerly, by the way, is now in the possession of Medway Port authority whilst the owner is sought

Thankyou

:)

Suppose he could have left by Dingy ..

Amazing really that you can get that close and just disappear .. Perhaps it was an ebay special .. One careful owner from new .. Just needs a bit of TLC ..

Oh well happy days ..

If you find out the ending would you PM me .. Or .. just add a new post .. Be nice to know what happened ..

Yes it all may have a simple explanation and hopefully not an unhappy ending- of course I shall be pleased to let you (all) know what transpires if it reaches my ears that is
