I'm looking for a small (16"/17") tv/dvd for the boat but haven't heard much about those i'm seeing on the net.

I don't think I really need a 12v one as I've rarely used my existing one other than using the 240v mains. (guess I could get in inverter if necessary)

Thinking of putting it on a swivel arm thing above the chart table - are there any arms that you can lock to save swinging & bashing about while out on the water?

thanks
Frank

we have a kogan 19" TV/DVD/PVR on the boat, full HD and around £150, not hifi sound as already said but good enough. we have the 22" version in our bedroom at home.

We just bought a basic one from Macro did us fine fixed to the ford bulkhead in the saloon

Can't recall the make but I did the same thing. Mine is 15 inch, 12v and has built-in DVD. I bought a swivel mount from Tesco but didn't use it. I bolted through it's base into flat shelving in the main cabin. Very pleased with it, I've had it couple of years and it only cost about £100.

We tried the Technika 19" TV/DVD, but the DVD bit didn't like the damp at this time of year, so we took it back. We have a Teac, which has a much better tuner, so we get a great picture, using our Status Aerial/booster. DVD is fine now too.

I have an Akura12v tv/dvd which is not a bad picture but I would not buy another as the viewing angle is only about 80 degrees total. Also the DVD is variable as to whether it wishes to play any particular DVD or CD.

I had same issue last year. I struggled to find a set as small as 16" and anything bigger would be unsuitable for the very specific location I had for it. In the event I got a set from Comet - included a dvd player. It's mounted on the bulkhead behind the chart table separating the heads so it's well out of the way. I couldn't find a suitable adjustable bracket so bought a fixed one and mounted that on a small 200 by 200 piece of wood in turn side hinged to the bulkhead.
This allows lots of adjustment which you'll probably need as cheaper sets often have limited viewing angles.
that apart set's fine and it's good to get digital radio.

I think you can get a lot for your money. We just opted for a 19" cello from amazon for 140 quid. With DVD player, freeview and a sky plus type recorder. also bought the swivel bracket which works well.
