Now most of my boating is done on medium to large SC's and flybridges. I did use my Flatacraft rib a few times but not to extreme as it were.

Anyway Tuesday I was asked to help out on a fun day in Soto taking folks out on a small sports boat towing em on horseshoe thingies etc.

It was on a Chapparal 2315 or 2415? sport, limited edition (whatever that means)

She had a very dirty bum and drive so top speed was not attainable plus the speedo did not work, but I was getting 3100 revs which I reckon was about 25knts? I stand to be corrected by the petrol heads on here, just a guess.

I must say though that despite this it was tremendous fun, the boat turned on a sixpence, and gripped really well in the turns.

Again not being used to small petrol boats I first opened the throttles slowly as I would on a large deisel boat, and what with the dirty bum plus 5 blokes aboard wondered why she would not plane the revs not wanting to go over 2000.
I then stopped and on the second attempt opened the throttles wide. This had the effect of getting her on the plane and thus to 3100 revs.

Wonder what a clean bum would enable it to do ? anyone hazard a guess.?

All in all a lot of fun

I was just this last weekend mulling this subject over with a friend of mine (raven) and recounting old stories of when we used to go water skiing in the early morning before the rest of the family got up.

Jolly good fun

Your top speed by the way should have been around 35kts.

The Chaparral hulls are awesome! I have had two! My Signature 240 (24ft) with Merc 5ltr on Bravo 3 Dp would do about 38kts with clean bum! She was amazing in a surfing sea s well!

Great boat and great speed to be attained!

Cheers
