Small Sail Boats

I know sailboat is a bit of an americanism but it is fairly accurate. Telling someone I have a yacht always seems a bit pretentious. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif (especially with my boat /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif). Besides if motorboat is a word why can't sailboat be one?
I'll have a look, even though my current boat is 24 feet long! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm sorry but I can't join something that uses the word 'sailboat' in its name.

Well that's ok Kenneth!...they have a 23 foot length limit anyway! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Toodle Pip!

...and Yahoo needs just too much personal information to register.... but thanks for the tip

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean that they are not out to get you! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

SBC is a state of mind rather than a strict limit on LOA. I have a 31' ketch but a smallboat mindset so I seem to fit in OK.

In effect, size isn't important, it's how you wish to use it!

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry??? Don't think I or anybody else has mentioned SBC???

Dunno what SBC is but a 31 footer must be way too big as I wasn't permitted to join with a 24 footer. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Ah well, that experience of owning a foxcub for years and sailing all sorts of small boats from dinghies upwards obviously will just have to go to waste. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Its the first time having an extra twelve inches actually prevented me from doing something! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sorry you feel that way, PM sent, but it does state clearly both in the original post, and on the homepage of the group, that it is for owners of boats of 23 feet or less.

Not a problem mate. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Its your egroup after all and you can draw the line wherever you want.
My attempt at a humorous reply to a previous post was not intended as a criticism of yourself or your egroup, thus the smiley /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.
Best of luck with the group.

Well, it looks like it could be a group for me. However, as there is nothing given as to who the moderators are, what the content of the group is and who the other members are, I will certainly not write an introduction of myself and my boat to be approved or rejected by someone or someones who do not give any information about themselves in advance.

Why not have an open group where anybody can read and make his mind up, but needs moderator approval to post?

Well in short, because the Moderator, has enough to do, without having to approve every perishing post! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Also, you can only set up a Yahoo group in a limited number of ways, the way it is set up is the best way for us, and saves us from suffering with nasty little spammers that afflict open groups.

All you have to do, is make an application to join, the moderator will then approve your application or not, the only rule that is set in stone is the one on boat length. Everything else is open to suggestion and discussion by the members.

If you feel that you want to know who everybody is, and who the moderators are before you join, well I guess we wont be seeing you, although you already know the answer to one of your questions /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Best to ya! Charlie.

Hi Paul, no problem, PM sent /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Smiffy, I know how a yahoo-group works, I have one myself (for Alacrity and Vivacity owners). Mine is semi-open and I do moderate the first post of every new member. Once they have written one that is OK they are given the right to post freely. Thus I don't get any spam.
I do not know how many members your group has, perhaps too many for this approach to be manageable (however it seems that approving the first post or approving a member request would be about the same amount of work?).

I am quite sure you are losing lots of potential members this way. It cannot be me alone who wants to see what is inside before submitting a membership request?

Well Jens,

Maybe so, and maybe no, but that's the way it is. I am sure we would be very happy to have you join us, if you did, and you didn't like what you found, you are perfectly at liberty to leave the group /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Incidentally, we have a member in Sweden, his name is Per and he sails a Westerly Cirrus. I think he isa little nuts, but he is a great bloke, and full of fun.

Ah, trying to hook me there eh? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey! ya cast a little bait on the water???? We have only been in existence since last week, so the group is very new. At the moment, we have only 10 members, but we are not in a rush to get more, personally I feel that it will grow at it's own pace.

Like any group, it will only ever be as good as it's members, and what they put into it. Your call? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
