Screwing anything into the edge of ply is generally not a good idea `cos it won`t hold the screws for long. Nip into B&Q and take a look at all their range of hinges. I seem to remember some kind of hinge where the hinge head (round, not like a piano hinge) has a long screw thread which will bite right into the ply. Either that or first glue and screw a strip of hardwood down each edge, then use double threaded screws ( like self tappers ) through that strip and into the ply,for a more permanent job.B&Q also have piano hinge in various materials including brass, but make sure that the actual hinge pin is also brass,not steel which will, o
ver time,rust and stain.
No connection of course, but it is a handy place

Dont use B&Q hinges as they are brass coated steel. I used one for a locker and after 3 years the hinge seized. Ok for pianos in the dry but definitely not for boats!
