I'm looking to replace our outboard and Mission Control has suggested that electric starting would be a good idea as she doesn't like heaving on the manual start cord.

8 to 10 HP with tiller steering is all we need: the boat is an easily driven Jaguar 24. We currently have a 4HP 2-stroke that's adequate as an auxiliary on Windermere where we are at present, but probably won't do when we move to the coast.

Any suggestions ? The only one I know about is a Susuki.

Check out the other common/ popular makes.

Yamaha, Tohatsu Honda, Mercury/ Mariner ( although will probably be re-badged Tohatsus) , Evinrude although not now a big player in small outboards and likely to be re-badged eastern made engines.

You will probably find that they all offer electric starting on engines from 8hp upwards.

You will need a longshaft ( 20" ), maybe an extralong ( 25") shaft . Look for "sail" versions as small modifications, including a high thrust prop, will make them more suitable for a slow sail boat than the standard versions which are aimed at fast ribs etc.
